A Wine Enthusiast BARRAGE of the 2007 Vintages

93 POINTS

2007 Pinot Noir - Four Boys Vineyard
Santa Lucia Highlands
"Only 208 cases were produced of this exceptionally ripe, attractive Pinot Noir. It’s big in cherry, raspberry, currant, cola, cocoa, raisin, spice and sweet sandalwood flavors that are framed in rich tannins and brightened with crisp acidity. Yet it’s young and freshly primary. Should begin to resolve after 2010, if you can keep your hands off." Cellar Selection. — Steve Heimoff

94 POINTS

2007 Pinot Noir - Lucia Highlands Vineyard
Santa Lucia Highlands
“It’s hard to believe the price on this wonderful Pinot Noir. It’s such a beauty. Ripe, rich and opulent, it shows powerful flavors of cherries, raspberries, red currants, anice, cocoa and sandalwood, yet remains elegant and delicate through the long, spicy finish. Just terrific. Scoop this one up while you can.” Editor’s Choice – Steve Heimoff.

93 POINTS

2007 Chardonnay - Sleepy Hollow Vineyard
Santa Lucia Highlands
“Shows the intensity that always accompanies Chardonnays from this vineyard. Explosive in pineapple crème brulee, apricot custard, pear tart, buttered toast and vanilla bean flavors that finish in a long swirl of spice. Crisp acidity and stony minerality provide structural balance. Now – 2012.” – Steve Heimoff

93 POINTS

2007 Chardonnay - Lucia Highlands Vineyard
Santa Lucia Highlands
“Extraordinarily rich and ripe, with flashy flavors of ripe pineapples, guavas and pears, accented with oak-influenced crème brulee, cinnamon toast and vanilla. Crisp acidity fortunately provides brightness and balance. Drink now.” Editors Choice. – Steve Heimoff

90 POINTS

2007 Pinot Noir - Central Avenue Vineyard
Monterey
“Impressive for the way the cherry fruit explodes in the mouth, so rich and opulent, then turns wonderfully dry and clean on the finish. It’s a beautiful Pinot Noir, silky and spice. At this price it’s perfect for restaurants.” Editor’s Choice – Steve Heimoff

Wine Pick of the Week

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

"Pessagno 2006 Pinot Noir "Four Boys Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands" ($55) If you are getting money back from the IRS, I can't think of a better way to celebrate than with this stunning Pinot. Superlatives reign: powerfully complex bouquet, silky texture, exquisite balance, glorious fruit and wonderful refinement. If you can afford to splurge, buy this soon, as only a few cases made it to Arizona. Serve this beauty with grilled meats, especially lamb.

Your favorite store can order this wine for you. Prices may vary."

Connoisseurs' Guide - December 2008 Issue

Following in the previous vintage's footsteps, the 2005 Intrinity™ Chardonnay, the 2006 Intrinity™ Chardonnay has also garnered great reviews, most recently the December '08 Chardonnay issue of Connoisseurs' Guide! The 2006 Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay also got a great write-up, and review.

from the
Connoisseurs' Guide

92 pts - PESSAGNO Intrinity Santa Lucia Highlands 2006
"More often than not, Chardonnays from this appellation come with an extra measure of body and weight, and this very ripe, very deep working confirms the point. Dense and dramatic with a distinct streak of honey and roasted grain in the nose, it is fat and very full in the mouth with unctuous flavors that abound in ripe apples, sweet cream and buttered toast. Its keenly placed acids keep it in good balance, and its decidedly dramatic style calls for very rich food."

89 pts - PESSAGNO Sleepy Hollow Vineyard 2006
"Showing clear kinship with its partner above, this bottling is rife with toast, and is as flamboyant as it is very full-bodied. If not quite so fruity, it is equally rich, and its combination of ripe apples, honey and sweet butter is colored by the very faintest touch of dried herbs. It needs teaming with appropriately flavorful foods, and, while not likely to fall apart soon, it is ready to go now."

Pessagno 2005 Intrinity Chardonnay

Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Wines of the Year Issue

The 2005 Intrinity™ Chardonnay recently received Wine Enthusiast's Top 58 of 100 Cellar Wines of the year! And the 2005 Four Boys Vineyard™ Pinot Noir received 90pts, along with cellarability credits. As a result, we quietly cellared the wines since early '08. We believe both the wines have reached auspicious aging potential, but could always stay stashed away for a few more years.

Classic Wines TV Rates our Chardonnays

The 2005 Chardonnay Sleepy Hollow Vineyard and the 2006 Chardonnay Lucia Highland Vineyard received some very kind accolades from Classic Wines TV host, Brian Freedman.

Quote from their Website:
"Host Brian Freedman gets vertical this week as he tries out two Pessagno Chardonnays. Pessagno is a well respected establishment that hails from the Monterey and San Benito counties of California. Focusing on back-to-back years, 2005 and 2006, Brian is able to analyze the different flavor profiles a year's difference can produce. Tasted in this episode of ClassicWines TV are the Pessagno 2005 Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay, and the Pessagno 2006 Lucia Highlands Vineyard Chardonnay."

The Spring 2007 Bounty Hunter Catalog rates the 2005 Central Avenue Pinot Noir

"What a bargain! Our tasting panel was betting on a much larger price tag, and we were thrilled to discover our folly! A dramatic nose of cherry-berry fruits and cinnamon comes spilling out of the glass, and the palate impression is laced with grip and fruit tannin. Single-vineyard Pinot of this quality for $21.00 is almost unheard of these days!"

New Stained Glass in the Tasting Room

The new Pessagno Winery stained glass window was designed by Steve's oldest son, Anthony Pessagno and made by his father, Aldo, and mother, Anita Pessagno. It was designed to fit in the Tasting Room above the second set of entrance doors. The whole process, from design to creation, took about one year. Click on thumbnails to view larger pictures.
